Raspberry Tea and Quilt Show coming July 17

In 1986 a bountiful crop of tasty raspberries prompted Bill and Anna Kennedy to plan a special day for their garden to celebrate its bounty.

The congregation of Sylvan United Church was invited to share both the Kennedy garden and heaping portions of raspberry shortcake with whipped cream. Of course, there were beverages, ice cream cones, and delicious raspberry sauce.

The food and drink were donated and the proceeds generated were turned over to the Church treasurer.

“We were blessed with warm, sunny weather,” Anna recalls, “and bright umbrellas, ladies’ fancy hats and enthusiastic musicians added to the festive mood.”

The public was invited and attendance increased each year. In 1988 a quilt show was added. Beautifully stitched and artistically created quilts were displayed throughout the garden to be enjoyed by appreciative visitors.
