Hand In Hand Thrift Store: A Community Adventure

What began as a simple idea between Sylvan United Church and St. John’s Anglican Church in Cobble Hill quickly grew into something much bigger — and much more joyful — than anyone expected. After reaching out to both congregations and the wider community, we discovered an incredible amount of enthusiasm, generosity, and support. With that momentum, our little thrift store was born, ready to open its doors every Friday from 10am to 2pm. When we officially opened on Valentine’s Day 2015, none of us could have imagined just how successful this joint venture would become. What started as a modest project has blossomed into a lively, welcoming space filled with treasures and friendly faces.

Behind the scenes, our dedicated volunteers keep everything running smoothly. They sort donations, stock the shelves, create displays, and greet every visitor with a smile. Their energy and commitment are a huge part of what makes the thrift store such a warm and vibrant place.
