Affirming Ministry

Sylvan United Church: Proudly Affirming Since 2019
Since our celebration on Sunday, May 26, 2019, Sylvan United Church has proudly embraced its role as a fully Affirming congregation—welcoming people from all walks of life. Whoever you are, wherever you’ve come from, and whoever you’re becoming, there is a place for you here. Our community of faith has completed the Affirming Ministry education program and is committed to including people of all sexual orientations and gender identities in every aspect of our life and work.
You are always welcome at Sylvan.
The Affirming Ministries Program—Where Love and Inclusion Shine Bright!
Did you know that across Canada, over 200 ministries within the United Church are proudly part of a vibrant movement that celebrates every person—no matter their sexual orientation or gender identity?
Since 1992, the Affirming Ministries Program has helped create warm, welcoming spaces in churches, chaplaincies, care homes, camps, and community ministries. In 2000, the United Church gave its full blessing to the initiative, inviting every ministry to open their hearts even wider.
This program isn’t just about good intentions—it’s about thoughtful action. It encourages congregations to reflect deeply on what it means to be publicly inclusive and loving in their communities. From rural churches to senior residences, the message is clear: everyone belongs.
