The Reverend Doctor Murray Groom was ordained into the ministry of Word, Sacrament and Pastoral Care by the United Church of Canada in 1984. He has served the congregation at Sylvan (formerly Shawnigan Lake – Mill Bay Pastoral Charge) since 1996. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics (University of Manitoba), a Certificate in Education (U of M), a Master of Divinity (St. Andrew’s College, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) and has studied extensively in the humanities at the University of Victoria. His Doctor of Ministry (St. Stephen’s College, Edmonton, Alberta) includes a dissertation on the role of the guide on pilgrimage. He is a staff member of the Pacific Jubilee Program in Spiritual Formation and Direction, based at The Centre at Naramata in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. His presiding interest in Celtic Christian history continues to fuel his pursuit for connections between North American and European aboriginal spiritual traditions. He lives in a clan environment that includes his spouse, three children, a brother, three sisters, one grandparent, numerous nieces and nephews and sundry cousins, partners and hangers-on.
