Art in the Sanctuary
Over the past year there has been a variety of art in the sanctuary. The intention is to provide a visual support for our worship with points of contemplation in our midst.
The Cosmos paintings at the front of the church are paintings that I did in response to “The Universe Story” by Brian Swimme when I first read it a couple of years ago. I was excited by the implications and magnificence of the evolutionary story. In particular the whole idea that the elements that make our bodies were formed in the birth and death of stars is truly awesome.
During the Season of Creation we used the shadow boxes and filled them with the signs of creation to remind us of the natural and human world of which we are a part. The boxes will appear again in upcoming seasons just as the art on the wll will continue to follow the liturgical seasons of the year.
This advent, a series called “State of the Heart” was there to remind us that over is present around us and within us even while we wait in the darkening season.
I welcome your ideas and involvement to make our sanctuary space a place where your thought and creativity can be expressed and our worship enriched. We serve our community and our own creative growth when we allow ourselves this kind of expression.
