We are blessed to have an active and engaged group of children and youth in Sylvan Children’s Worship.
The inclusion of children and youth begins in the sanctuary with Murray’s theme conversation and a ‘repeat after me’ prayer.
Children’s Worship is a Montessori-based approach to Christian formation and spiritual guidance. Through story, reflection and shared experiences, children are provided with Christian language that encourages them to identify and express their innate sense of God’s presence. Children from ages 5 to 11 meet every Sunday from September to May in the Children’s Worship space. Youth from ages 12 to 17 meet on the first and third Sunday of each month in our Youth Room. During their time together, they discuss scripture, the relevance of faith in their daily lives, and they plan for activities beyond Sunday worship time.
Once in the community hall, the younger children (ages 3 to 11) gather in a circle to welcome newcomers, celebrate birthdays and special events, and learn more about the week’s theme. They then explore the lesson further through discussion, role-play, crafts and station activities.
We continue to hope for support from the congregation and look for volunteers to strengthen our teaching team.
